Susan Philipsz, First Artist to Win the Turner Prize for a Sound Work

Susan Philipsz, a native of Glasgow currently working in Berlin, is the first artist to win the Turner Prize for a sound work. Lowlands, created for the Glasgow International art show, was originally sited beneath Glasgow’s bridges over the river Clyde, and comprised recordings of Philipsz’s voice singing a traditional Scottish folk song.
